Data Fabrication Policy
Purpose
PestBytes Journal is committed to maintaining the highest standards of research integrity, scientific accuracy, and ethical publishing. The Journal does not tolerate data fabrication, data falsification, image manipulation, or any other form of research misconduct that compromises the reliability of the scientific record.
Authors are expected to present research findings honestly, accurately, transparently, and without deception.
Definitions
Data Fabrication
Data fabrication refers to the invention, creation, or reporting of data, observations, results, experiments, surveys, field records, laboratory findings, or other research information that were never actually obtained or conducted.
Examples include:

Inventing experimental results.

Creating fictitious observations or datasets.

Reporting studies, trials, surveys, or field investigations that were never performed.

Generating false statistical outcomes.
Data Falsification
Data falsification refers to the manipulation, alteration, omission, selective reporting, or misrepresentation of research data, materials, procedures, images, or results in a manner that distorts the true findings of the study.
Examples include:

Altering numerical data to achieve desired outcomes.

Selectively excluding data points without scientific justification.

Manipulating images, graphs, figures, or photographs to misrepresent results.

Misreporting methodologies or experimental procedures.
-
Concealing negative, contradictory, or unfavorable findings.
Author Responsibilities
Authors submitting manuscripts to PestBytes Journal must:

Ensure that all reported data are genuine and accurately represented.

Maintain complete and accurate research records.

Retain original data and supporting documentation for a reasonable period following publication.

Provide underlying data, records, or supporting materials upon request by the Editorial Office.

Disclose any limitations, uncertainties, or deviations encountered during the research.
Authors share collective responsibility for the integrity and accuracy of the submitted work.
Data Verification
The Journal reserves the right to:

Request raw data, laboratory records, field notes, datasets, statistical outputs, photographs, or supporting documentation.

Seek clarification regarding methodologies, analyses, or reported findings.

Conduct editorial investigations when concerns arise regarding data integrity.

Consult subject matter experts, reviewers, institutions, or independent specialists when necessary.
Failure to provide requested supporting information may result in rejection or further investigation.
Image and Figure Integrity
Images, photographs, micrographs, charts, maps, and graphical data must accurately represent the original findings.
The following practices are prohibited:

Addition, removal, or alteration of features that misrepresent results.

Undisclosed digital enhancement that changes scientific interpretation.

Duplication of images to represent different experiments or observations.

Manipulation of figures intended to deceive readers.
Standard adjustments for brightness, contrast, color balance, or clarity are acceptable when applied uniformly and when they do not alter the scientific meaning of the image.
Suspected Misconduct Before Publication
If evidence or suspicion of fabrication or falsification is identified during editorial assessment or peer review:

Authors may be requested to provide supporting documentation.

The manuscript may be rejected.

Additional investigations may be conducted where warranted.
Misconduct Identified After Publication
If fabrication or falsification is discovered after publication, PestBytes Journal may:

Publish a correction.

Publish an expression of concern.

Retract the article.

Notify the authors' institution, employer, funding body, or relevant authorities where appropriate.
The action taken will depend on the severity of the misconduct and its impact on the validity of the published findings.
Institutional Cooperation
The Journal may cooperate with universities, research institutions, employers, funding agencies, and regulatory authorities in investigating allegations of research misconduct.
Authors are expected to cooperate fully with any such investigation.
Whistleblower Protection
Individuals who raise concerns regarding potential data fabrication or falsification in good faith will be treated respectfully and confidentially to the extent possible.
The Journal will evaluate all allegations fairly and objectively.
Editorial Responsibility
The Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board are responsible for safeguarding the integrity of the scientific record and ensuring that allegations of fabrication or falsification are handled in a transparent, impartial, and evidence-based manner.
