Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

Introduction

PestBytes Journal is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics, integrity, transparency, and professional responsibility in scholarly and professional publishing. The Journal expects all participants in the publication process, including authors, reviewers, editors, editorial board members, and publishers, to adhere to ethical principles that promote trust, credibility, and scientific integrity.

The Journal does not tolerate plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, duplicate publication, unethical research practices, or any form of publication misconduct.

Responsibilities of Authors

Authors submitting manuscripts to PestBytes Journal must ensure that:

  • The submitted work is original and has not been published previously.

  • The manuscript is not simultaneously under consideration by another journal or publication.

  • All authors have made significant contributions to the work.

  • All authors have reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript.

  • Data presented in the manuscript are accurate, complete, and honestly reported.

  • Sources of information, data, figures, and ideas from other works are properly cited.

  • Any conflicts of interest are fully disclosed.

  • Funding sources are accurately acknowledged.

  • Applicable ethical approvals and permissions have been obtained where required.

Authors must cooperate fully with the Journal if questions arise regarding the accuracy, validity, or integrity of their work.

Authorship Criteria

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial contributions to:

  • The conception or design of the work;

  • Data collection, analysis, or interpretation;

  • Drafting or critically revising the manuscript; and

  • Approval of the final version for publication.

All authors must agree to be accountable for the content of the work.

Individuals who provide administrative assistance, funding support, technical assistance, or general supervision should be acknowledged appropriately but should not be listed as authors unless they meet authorship criteria.

Guest authorship, honorary authorship, and ghost authorship are prohibited.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers are expected to:

  • Evaluate manuscripts objectively and fairly.

  • Maintain confidentiality of all manuscript materials.

  • Provide constructive and professional feedback.

  • Identify relevant published work not cited by the authors.

  • Alert the Editor to possible plagiarism, duplicate publication, ethical concerns, or research misconduct.

  • Disclose any conflicts of interest that could affect their impartiality.

  • Complete reviews within the agreed time frame.

Reviewers must not use unpublished information obtained through peer review for personal or professional advantage.

Responsibilities of Editors

Editors are responsible for:

  • Making publication decisions based solely on academic merit, quality, originality, relevance, and ethical compliance.

  • Maintaining confidentiality throughout the editorial process.

  • Ensuring a fair and unbiased review process.

  • Managing conflicts of interest appropriately.

  • Taking reasonable steps to investigate allegations of misconduct.

  • Protecting the integrity of the scholarly record.

Editorial decisions shall not be influenced by commercial interests, institutional affiliations, nationality, gender, race, religion, political beliefs, or other non-academic factors.

Plagiarism Policy

PestBytes Journal maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward plagiarism.

Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:

  • Direct copying of text without attribution.

  • Paraphrasing without proper citation.

  • Use of figures, tables, images, or data without permission or acknowledgment.

  • Self-plagiarism and redundant publication.

All submissions may be screened using plagiarism detection software.

Manuscripts found to contain significant plagiarism may be rejected immediately or withdrawn from consideration.

Duplicate Publication and Redundant Submission

Authors must not submit the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously.

The Journal does not accept:

  • Duplicate submissions.

  • Previously published manuscripts.

  • Redundant publications that substantially overlap with published work.

Authors must disclose any related manuscripts, conference proceedings, reports, or prior publications that may overlap with the submitted work.

Failure to disclose such information may result in rejection or retraction.

Data Fabrication and Falsification

PestBytes Journal prohibits:

  • Fabrication of data.

  • Falsification of research findings.

  • Manipulation of images, figures, or results.

  • Selective reporting intended to mislead readers.

Authors may be asked to provide raw data, supporting documentation, field records, or additional evidence to verify reported findings.

Confirmed cases of fabrication or falsification may result in rejection, retraction, notification of institutions, and prohibition from future submissions.

Conflicts of Interest

Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any financial, professional, institutional, personal, or commercial interests that could influence their decisions or interpretations.

Examples include:

  • Employment relationships.

  • Consulting arrangements.

  • Ownership interests.

  • Research funding.

  • Patent applications.

  • Personal relationships.

Where no conflicts exist, a statement should be included indicating that no conflicts of interest have been declared.

Corrections and Errata

When errors are identified that do not invalidate the findings of a publication, the Journal may publish a correction, erratum, or clarification.

Corrections will be linked to the original article and will remain permanently accessible.

Retraction Policy

Articles may be retracted when:

  • Findings are proven unreliable.

  • Data have been fabricated or falsified.

  • Significant plagiarism is identified.

  • Duplicate publication has occurred.

  • Serious ethical violations are discovered.

Retraction notices will:

  • Remain permanently available.

  • Clearly explain the reasons for retraction.

  • Be linked to the original article.

Retracted articles will remain part of the scholarly record but will be clearly marked as retracted.

Complaints and Appeals

Authors who disagree with editorial decisions may submit a written appeal to the Editor-in-Chief.

Appeals should include:

  • Detailed justification.

  • Supporting evidence where applicable.

  • Any information relevant to the decision under review.

The Editor-in-Chief may seek additional review or consultation before issuing a final decision.
