Purpose

PestBytes Journal is committed to maintaining the integrity, originality, and credibility of the scholarly record. Authors are expected to submit only original work that has not been published elsewhere and is not under consideration by another journal, conference proceeding, book, or publication platform.

Duplicate publication undermines the integrity of scientific communication and may result in rejection, retraction, or other corrective actions.

Definition of Duplicate Publication

Duplicate publication occurs when an author publishes, or attempts to publish, substantially the same work in more than one publication without proper disclosure, permission, or justification.

Duplicate publication may include:

  • Submission of the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously.

  • Publication of substantially similar articles in different journals.

  • Re-publication of previously published data, results, or analyses without proper disclosure.

  • Translation and publication of a previously published article without authorization and disclosure.

  • Fragmentation of a single study into multiple papers ("salami slicing") without scientific justification.

  • Reuse of significant portions of previously published content without proper citation.

Author Responsibilities

Authors must:

  • Confirm that submitted manuscripts are original and unpublished.

  • Disclose any prior dissemination of the work, including conference presentations, proceedings, institutional reports, dissertations, theses, preprints, or white papers.

  • Inform the Editorial Office of any related manuscripts under review or published elsewhere.

  • Provide copies of related publications when requested by the editors.

Failure to disclose relevant prior publications may be considered a breach of publication ethics.

Acceptable Secondary Publication

In limited circumstances, secondary publication may be permitted where:

  • The original publication is clearly acknowledged.

  • Permission has been obtained from the original publisher where required.

  • The secondary publication serves a legitimate educational, scientific, or professional purpose.

  • The Editor-in-Chief approves the publication.

Any approved secondary publication must clearly identify the original source.

Similarity Screening

PestBytes Journal reserves the right to screen all submissions using plagiarism and similarity detection tools.

Manuscripts found to contain substantial overlap with previously published work may be:

  • Returned for clarification.

  • Rejected before peer review.

  • Rejected after peer review.

  • Subject to further investigation.

Violations Identified Before Publication

If duplicate publication is identified before publication, the manuscript may be rejected and the authors may be required to provide an explanation. Serious or repeated violations may result in temporary restrictions on future submissions.

Violations Identified After Publication

If duplicate publication is discovered after publication, PestBytes Journal may:

  • Publish a correction.

  • Publish a notice of redundant publication.

  • Retract the article.

  • Notify the authors' institution or affiliated organization when appropriate.

The action taken will depend on the extent and severity of the duplication.

Preprints, Theses, and White Papers

The Journal recognizes that certain forms of prior dissemination may not constitute duplicate publication.

Submission of work previously available as:

  • Academic theses or dissertations.

  • Institutional technical reports.

  • Conference abstracts.

  • Preprint server manuscripts.

  • Professional white papers with appropriate disclosure.

may be considered on a case-by-case basis, provided that full disclosure is made during submission and the work undergoes independent peer review.

Editorial Decision

The final determination regarding duplicate publication rests with the Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board. Decisions will be guided by principles of fairness, transparency, publication ethics, and the preservation of the scholarly record.

Commitment to Ethical Publishing

PestBytes Journal is dedicated to publishing original, high-quality scholarly work and maintaining the highest standards of research integrity. Authors, reviewers, and editors share responsibility for preventing duplicate publication and ensuring the reliability of published research.
